Investing in our Future: Empowering Students at Careers Expo 2023

Cook Islands Finance were pleased to share the career pathways available in the financial services industry with students at the annual Cook Islands Ministry of Education Careers Expo.

Around 400 Year 11-13 high school students were in attendance at the all-day event, which saw government agencies and private companies give attendees an inside guide into their respective industries.

“One of our core objectives at Cook Islands Finance is highlighting the excellent employment opportunities available in the financial services industry for our local people.” said Cook Islands Finance’s Tony Fe’ao.

“Young people can get the best of both worlds – a well paying professional career whilst living in the little paradise they call home.”

The Cook Islands Finance team was joined at their booth by industry professionals who shared their journeys and success stories from within the Cook Islands Finance Industry.

Nadine Newnham, Director and General Manager of Trustees & Fiduciaries Cook Islands Ltd grew up on Rarotonga, attending both Titikaveka and Tereora College respectively. Her career in the Trust Industry opened doors for her to travel the globe.

“It was a great opportunity for us to raise awareness around the careers available in the financial services industry, and they’re not just in accounting and law. You can take the skills you learn here and go anywhere in the world.”

Career Expo

Trina Pureau, General Manager at Southpac Group also attended high school in the Cook Islands. Following a career in marketing, she returned home, forging a successful path in the financial services industry.

“It is important that we invest in the future of our industry.” stated Pureau, who is also serves on the Cook Islands Finance Board.

“An interesting observation was that lots of students had little idea about what we do in the financial services industry. Sharing our success stories opened students to the possibilities available to them.”

The team were also joined by enthusiastic trust industry veteran Mereana Taripo, client services officer at Southpac Group and Stephany Teatairiki who is currently pursuing a degree at Massey University while working at Trustees & Fiduciaries (CI) Ltd.
